If you’re currently in the market for a midsize luxury sedan with immaculate style, commanding performance, and an accommodating, world-class cabin, then there are a few models that are truly worth consideration. The 2017 Jaguar XF is back this year following a full redesign, returning with a finely trimmed cabin, generous cargo room, and commanding performance to the mix. Some shoppers in Marco Island might also be interested in the luxury 2017 Lexus GS. But while the Lexus GS has an appeal of its own, it doesn’t match the high standards set by the new Jaguar XF. Take a closer look with this comparison, and then test-drive the 2017 Jaguar XF at Jaguar Fort Myers.

Performance

When you’re looking for a luxury sedan that also delivers thrilling performance, go with the 2017 Jaguar XF over the 2017 Lexus GS:

  • Jaguar XF: The standard powertrain on the Jaguar XF is a supercharged 3.0L V6 engine that’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. On standard models, this setup produces a commanding 340 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque, though there’s also a sport-tuned S model that increases output to 380 hp. No matter which version you choose, you’ll have your pick between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. New this year is a turbodiesel 2.0L four-cylinder engine, which is good for 180 hp and 318 lb-ft of torque.
  • Lexus GS: The powertrain setup on the Lexus GS is a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four and an eight-speed automatic transmission that only makes 241 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, which can only be sent to the rear wheels since there’s no all-wheel drive version available. You can move up to a 3.5L V6 engine that generates 311 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque with the choice of rear-wheel drive with an eight-speed automatic or all-wheel drive with a six-speed automatic, but the upgrade will cost you more and still won’t compare to the performance of the Jaguar XF.

Cargo Space

Both of these vehicles have finely appointed cabins that comfortably seat five passengers, but when it comes to cargo space, the Jaguar XF is your best bet. Its trunk measures a very spacious 19.1 cubic feet. This is noticeably larger than the Lexus GS trunk, which comes in at only 14.3 cubic feet. The Jaguar gives you plenty of room for a set of golf clubs and even a handcart in the back, or plenty of space for snowbirds to take the drive back up north with all their luggage.
